How to check your USCIS case status online

Find your receipt number, use the case status tool, set up a USCIS account and understand common status messages.

After you file a form with US Citizenship and Immigration Services, you receive a receipt notice (Form I-797C) with a receipt number. That number is how you track your case.

Step by step:

  1. Find your receipt number: three letters followed by ten numbers, like: IOE0123456789
  2. Go to the Case Status Online page on uscis.gov
  3. Enter the number without dashes
  4. Read the latest status and date

Common statuses:
