This is general information, not legal advice. Work rules depend on your exact status, and the consequences of getting it wrong can be serious.

Why it’s risky

Many US visas allow work only in specific situations. Driving for a rideshare app, delivery work, freelancing for US clients or paid tutoring may count as unauthorized employment if your status doesn’t allow it.

Questions about passive investing, selling personal items, or remote work for a foreign company while in the US are complex. Get advice before acting.

Before you start: Talk to your DSO (for students) or an immigration attorney. Unauthorized work can create problems years later.
