The American workplace has shifted dramatically over the last few years. If you’re entering the job market now, the rules of the game are totally different than they were a decade ago.
The Hybrid Work Reality
While the fully remote “work from a beach in Bali” dream has cooled off, hybrid schedules are here to stay. Most corporate roles now expect you in the office 2 to 3 days a week.
What About the Money?
- Wages vary wildly by state. Making $80,000 in Ohio means you live very comfortably. Making $80,000 in San Francisco means you have three roommates. Always negotiate based on local cost of living.
- Benefits matter. In the US, your healthcare is tied to your employer. A slightly lower salary with a phenomenal healthcare plan is often a much better deal than a high salary with terrible insurance.
Don’t be afraid to job-hop. The days of staying at one company for 30 years are gone. Moving laterally every few years is the fastest way to increase your daily wage.
